This Blog is no longer receiving active posts due to a family loss which lead to the forced sale of the Pollinator Potager's location. I am pleased to relate that the garden is still being tended by the new property owner, for which I am grateful. The memories of my Pollinator Potager Project will remain here, and in my heart.

Seedy Saturday

Last Saturday, my sister Jennifer and I headed out to Seedy Saturday in Hagersville. It was a soggy morning; however, anticipation of spring seeding was irresistible, so we braved the elements.

The hall was small but bountiful, and the spirit of sharing was all around.

We had informative conversations with various seed vendors and two generous volunteers at the seed share table. The seed share table was a happy bonus as we could avail ourselves of a few packets of free seeds, offered even if we didn’t have seeds to share.

Using our slightly damp noggins, we decided it would be practical to share seeds as much as possible, so as not to spend more than necessary. Thirty-five dollars and an hour and a half later, I came away with enough seeds to plant a very large and seriously impractical garden.

Jennifer enjoyed a yummy rice and veggie plate, and I bumped into a friend I hadn’t seen in a while. All-in-all, it was an enjoyable morning.

Today, Jennifer and I got together again, this time at her house, to divide up our spoils from the previous Saturday. Another hour and a half later and I came home with several dozen little craft envelopes of seeds carefully labelled with important growing information, and corresponding cell phone photos of the original seed packets.

This great start to what will hopefully be a productive growing season is in no small part a testament to my sister’s gardening knowledge and her willingness to share it with me. Thanks, Jenn, for two fruitful Saturdays and for your help with my early preparation. You’re the best!
